Following an eye-opening trip to Iceland in November last year, Trevor has been undertaking a new series of paintings inspired by the unique scenery, landscapes, and buildings of South West Iceland.
Iceland is, quite simply, extreme. The vast volcanic landscape, weather, beauty, skies, mountains, waterfalls, rivers, geysers... it’s a country that doesn’t do things by half.
This showcase exhibition captures some of the elements of South West Iceland, from Laugarvatn (where he and his wife stayed in a cosy ‘hut’ in the middle of nowhere), to Vik on the south coast, capturing the expanded views along Route 1 and the amazing Kötlujökull glacier cave on Mt. Katla.
Modernist churches dotted within the landscape, along with buildings in Reykjavik are all featured.
Finally, the Aurora Borealis: a truly surreal experience and extremely humbling - and lucky - sighting in week full of challenging weather!
To accompany the exhibition, Trevor has produced his first book, which features paintings from the exhibition as well as photographic imagery from the journey. They will be available from Gallery Plus in limited numbers.
Trevor Woods is an established artist based in North Norfolk. He has been painting professionally for over 16 years. His fresh approach to painting has developed over time, always distinctively his, but now with more painterly elements. His basic principles have remained the same: bold graphic imagery and a strong colour palette. Nothing is overcomplicated, but he is always learning from what has gone before. He and his wife own Gallery Plus in Wells-next-the-Sea, where his studio is always open to visitors, and is a great place to meet and discuss art.
